Everywhere Amal goes, she learns about history, culture, art, music and more… By following Amal’s journey children around the world can learn through her eyes.

We create free to access activity-based resources to help young people engage with the themes of Amal’s journey and learn about the locations she visits.

MAKE A RAMADAN LANTERN

Slowly, one lantern at a time, Somers Town estate in London will become illuminated with lanterns revealing a path of light for Little Amal to follow.

Download the instructions HERE and make a Ramadan inspired lantern. If you can, bring your lantern to Kings Cross on Sunday 2 April 2023 and walk with Amal in the parade!

MAKE A LOCUST

At JW3 in North London, Amal is introduced to story of Passover and the flight from Egypt. To help her learn about the 10 plagues, we will fill courtyard of JW3 with paper locusts!

MAKE A PAPER BIRD

When celebrating Easter on Rowley Way in North London, Amal suddenly sees a beautiful dove appear in the distance. She curiously follows the dove and discovers hundreds of paper birds created by YOU!

Follow the instructions HERE and bring along your paper bird to meet Amal at the Alexandra and Ainsworth Estate on Sunday 2 April 2023.

MAKE A HOT CROSS BUN

One of Little Amal’s favourite smells is freshly cooked bread. Her dad would leave the bread on top of the furnace and she remembers the delicious smell that would waft through the house after school!

Let’s celebrate Easter with Amal by making our own Hot Cross Buns following the recipe HERE.

MAKE A GAZIANTEP LANTERN

In July 2021 the city of Gaziantep became illuminated with traditional Arabic lanterns, revealing a path of light for Little Amal led by the artist Ali M Demirel.

MAKE A TURKISH TILE

In August 2021 in Izmir, Amal learned about the folklore art of decorating Turkish tiles and plates from her friends at Yaren Cooperative.

MAKE A LIGHTBOX MESSAGE

In August 2021 in the city centre of Ioannina Greece, Amal walked through a path lit for hundreds of lightboxes, each with their own message for Amal.

MAKE A FLOWER

In August 2021 in Trikala Greece, Little Amal found shade under the branches of a tall old tree surrounded by gigantic flowers, made by the children of the town.

In September 2021, Little Amal’s friends at the Teatre Del Baulle in Italy created a traveller’s cookbook with recipes gathered along the route.

WRITE A LETTER TO AMAL

When Amal was in Belgium in October 2021 she delivered a sack of 10,000 letters to the European Parliament in Brussels, each written by a child who has answered one big question…

“What do you wish you could change in the world for Children like you and Little Amal?”

MAKE A FOOTPRINT

In October 2021, the city of Coventry close to the end of Amal’s long journey through Europe, invited children everywhere to create a footprint of welcome for Amal.
