Atlanta Chinese Dance Company (ACDC)
Atlanta Chinese Dance Company (ACDC) educates and entertains about Chinese and Chinese American history and culture through the art of Chinese dance. Founded in 1991 by Hwee-Eng Y. Lee and co-directed by Hwee-Eng and Kerry Lee, ACDC dancers have enchanted audiences of diverse backgrounds through full-evening Chinese dance productions as well as community performances, lecture-demonstrations, workshops, and residencies throughout metro Atlanta and beyond. Most notably, ACDC helped showcase Atlanta to the world as performers in the opening and closing ceremonies of the Centennial Olympic Games. For more than a decade, they performed a culturally authentic “Chinese variation” in the Atlanta Ballet’s Nutcracker. In recent years, ACDC has created and presented innovative Chinese dance choreography in collaboration with other art forms to share rarely told Chinese American stories from the perspective of the South, address social justice issues, and share a message of solidarity.
