Light Guides the Way

Dover, UK

Pencester Gardens

After arriving in the UK, Amal soon founds herself in Dover town. Families gathered with home-made star lanterns and together they guided Amal to a high point where she could see over the horizon.

Artist duo UV Labs, based in Turkey and Paris created a new lighthouse for Dover, built with local people over the course of a week. This striking structure stood tall again the backdrop of Dover Castle, the site of one of the UK’s oldest remaining Roman lighthouses.

Over the course of the evening the lighthouse became strung with star lanterns – as it is illuminated Amal understands the way she must walk next.
