Folkestone Harbour Station
On her first day in the UK, Amal wandered the shore alone until distant sounds guided her to a crowd of singers in an abandoned train station.
There, an unexpected participatory and musical event unfolded around Amal, musically directed by Anil Sebastian of London Contemporary Voices.

Light Guides the Way
Dover, UK
Pencester Gardens
After arriving in the UK, Amal soon founds herself in Dover town. Families gathered with home-made star lanterns and together they guided Amal to a high point where she could see over the horizon.
Artist duo UV Labs, based in Turkey and Paris created a new lighthouse for Dover, built with local people over the course of a week. This striking structure stood tall again the backdrop of Dover Castle, the site of one of the UK’s oldest remaining Roman lighthouses.
Over the course of the evening the lighthouse became strung with star lanterns – as it is illuminated Amal understands the way she must walk next.

St Margaret's Bay
As Little Amal landed on British soil, the world renowned theatre company, Complicité, guided her across the Dover coastline at St Margaret’s bay.
Directed by Sasha Milavic Davies the performance of Little Amal’s encounter on the beach explored how human connection transcends borders and oceans.

Amal and the Giant Fairground Wheel

In a celebratory event of welcome created with Lewisham, the London Borough of Culture 2022, Amal was welcomed to Lewisham where a giant fairground wheel was been erected in her honour.
There she discovered treasures from around the world in Deptford’s bustling street market, formed new friendships with the young people of Lewisham and celebrated the diversity of the borough, the first borough in the UK to be recognised as a borough of sanctuary.

The Royal Docks welcomed Little Amal to a sensory storytelling journey through the docks, filled with live performance, food, film, beatboxing, music and dance.
This event of welcome celebrated the past, present and future of this off the beaten track area of London.

Amal arrived weary at St Paul’s Cathedral in the heart of the London.
When she knocked on The Great West Doors, the ceremonial doors of the Cathedral, they opened wide to welcome her.
On the steps of the Cathedral, spoken word and music collided in an event of welcome directed by Phyllida Lloyd.
